WHAT HAPPENED?
An Embraer 190 aircraft belonging to AZAL, operating a flight from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25. AZAL had announced that there were 67 people on board, consisting of a 5-member crew and 62 passengers.
It was reported that 38 people lost their lives in the accident, while 29 survived. Azerbaijani officials had confirmed the allegation that the plane was subjected to an attack by a Russian "Pantsir-S" air defense system.
