Raid on the Presidential Office in South Korea

In South Korea, President Yoon Suk Yeol's As part of an investigation into the martial law declaration issued on December 3, police raided the Presidential Office in the capital, Seoul.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the raids were not limited to the Presidential Office; searches were also conducted at the National Police Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. 

These developments follow the announcement by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik that parliament would exercise its investigative authority regarding the martial law declaration. 

The South Korean National Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling for the "immediate" detention of President Yoon Suk Yeol due to the martial law declaration on December 3.

MARTIAL LAW DECLARATION

In his statement on December 3, President Yoon Suk Yeol, "the opposition's involvement in anti-state activities" citing this as the reason for declaring martial law. However, this decision was overturned following a parliamentary vote and was subsequently canceled after approval by the Cabinet. Yoon argued that the martial law was intended to, "eliminate pro-North Korean groups and protect constitutional freedoms" and accused the opposition of obstructing the government's functions. 

Following the declaration of martial law, the Ministry of Defense instructed the military to hold meetings and move to a state of high alert. Furthermore, it was reported that soldiers designated as "martial law troops" entered the National Assembly. In an emergency session held at the Assembly, a motion to cancel the martial law decree was passed with the votes of 190 lawmakers, rendering the martial law null and void. 

Yoon announced that he had ended martial law with the approval of the Cabinet. As part of an investigation opened on charges of "treason," "attempted armed insurrection," and "abuse of power," a travel ban has been imposed on Yoon.
