Ramadan message from US Secretary of State Blinken
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has released a message on the occasion of the arrival of the month of Ramadan.
In his Ramadan message, Blinken said, “As the month of Ramadan begins, I wish a blessed Ramadan to the more than 1.8 billion Muslims around the world.
This year, this time of peace coincides with a period of conflict and suffering for many Muslim communities, including Uyghurs in Xinjiang, Rohingyas in Burma and Bangladesh, and Palestinians in Gaza.”
Stating that this suffering is felt by Muslims all over the world, Blinken said, “For this reason, this year Ramadan feels different.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is heartbreaking. While we deliver additional humanitarian aid to Gaza, we will continue to work tirelessly to secure an immediate and sustained ceasefire for at least six weeks that includes the release of hostages.”
Emphasizing that efforts toward a two-state solution in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will continue, Blinken said, “Peace is possible, necessary, and urgent.”
