Reaction from Russia to US move: 'We are steadily moving towards a Cold War'
Stating that the US decision to deploy long-range cruise missiles to Germany is an attempt to suppress Russia, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, "We are steadily moving towards a Cold War."
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in a statement to the Russian state channel Rossiya-1, evaluated the US decision to deploy "Tomahawk" long-range cruise missiles to Germany starting in 2026.
Emphasizing that they will follow developments regarding the decision, Peskov said, "Germany, the US, France, and the UK are directly participating in the conflicts in Ukraine. All of this is being done to suppress our country and ensure our strategic defeat on the battlefield."
Peskov stated that the ongoing developments bear the hallmarks of a Cold War, adding, "We are steadily moving towards a Cold War. All of this has happened before."
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov commented in a statement today that they would "develop a military response" to the US decision.
According to a joint statement made by the US and Germany yesterday, Tomahawk cruise missiles and other long-range weapons will be deployed to Germany starting in 2026.
The US last deployed such long-range weapons to Germany in the 1990s.
