Reaction to arrest request: 'Hamas strongly condemns attempts to equate the victim with the executioner'
International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan had requested arrest warrants for Hamas leaders. Hamas responded to this request by expressing its condemnation.
International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan has requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement leader Yahya Sinwar, and the commander of Hamas's military wing—also known as the Al-Qassam Brigades—Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, also known as Deif.
In a statement regarding the matter, Hamas demanded the cancellation of the arrest warrants and stated the following:
"Hamas strongly condemns the attempts by the International Criminal Court Prosecutor to equate the victim with the executioner by issuing arrest warrants against certain Palestinian resistance leaders. Hamas demands the cancellation of all arrest warrants issued against the leaders of the Palestinian resistance on the grounds that they violate UN conventions and resolutions."
The final decision regarding the arrest warrants for senior Israeli and Hamas leaders will be made by the judges of the International Criminal Court.
