Rebel attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo: 14 civilians killed
14 civilians have lost their lives in an attack carried out by rebels in the North Kivu province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to reports in the national press, the rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) carried out an armed attack against civilians in the village of Kyanganda, located in North Kivu.
14 civilians lost their lives in the attack, during which many homes were looted.
80 civilians had lost their lives in attacks carried out by ADF members in the same region over the last month.
The ADF, which began operating in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the late 1990s, was formed by the coming together of former members of movements such as the Uganda National Liberation Army (NALU), the Allied Muslim Liberation Army, and the Tablighi Jamaat.
It is stated that thousands of civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in ADF attacks since 2014.
