It has been reported that spending reached a record level of 9.8 billion dollars in the US on "Black Friday," the day when discounted sales are held.
According to data compiled by Adobe Analytics and reported in US media, online sales increased on "Black Friday," the day known for limited-time discounted sales in the country.
On that day, consumers made a record 9.8 billion dollars in online purchases. This amount represents a 7.5 percent increase in spending compared to last year.
The best-selling items on "Black Friday" were electronic products such as smartwatches and televisions.
It was also reported that online spending on Thanksgiving, which is celebrated before "Black Friday" in the US, reached 5.6 billion dollars, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to last year.
The period that begins with Thanksgiving, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the country, followed by Black Friday, when discounted shopping spreads across the entire country, and continues with Small Business Saturday, which aims to boost sales for small businesses, and Cyber Monday, ending with Christmas and then New Year's Eve on December 31, is significant for the retail sector.
This period, referred to as the "holiday season," is generally considered the most profitable time of the year for major retailers and is also seen as a benchmark for the "economic health" of consumers in the US.
