Red Cross statement on the flood disaster in Spain

The IFRC issued a written statement regarding the deadly flood disaster affecting Spain.

The statement said, "The flash floods in Spain have devastated people, destroying homes and livelihoods. The floods have blocked roads and destroyed infrastructure. More than 150 people have lost their lives, many are still missing, and the death toll is expected to rise."

Emphasizing that the Spanish Red Cross is on the ground in the most affected regions, primarily Valencia and Andalusia, the statement reported that emergency response teams have been deployed to high-risk areas.

The statement indicated that temporary shelters have been set up in these areas and that assistance is being provided to the most vulnerable individuals, especially the elderly.

It was stated that Red Cross volunteers are distributing basic aid such as food, water, blankets, and hygiene kits, as well as providing first aid and psychosocial support.

It had been reported that the death toll from the flood disaster caused by heavy rain and storms in Spain had risen to 158, with the vast majority occurring in Valencia.
