Authorities stated that search and rescue operations for missing persons are ongoing.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times newspaper, the drownings occurred during the 'Jivitputrika Festival,' where women fast for the well-being of their children and enter rivers together.

State officials announced that 46 people, including 37 children, lost their lives in drowning incidents that occurred during religious rituals across 15 different districts.

State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and announced that compensation would be paid to the families.
