Remarkable decision from Russia: Taliban removed from terrorist organization list

Russia is preparing to remove the Taliban from its list of 'terrorist organizations'.

PUTIN HAS MADE HIS DECISION

The Foreign Ministry announced that the decision has been made at the 'highest level'.

Speaking to the state news agency Tass, Zamir Kabulov, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special representative for Afghanistan, stated that there are still a series of formal steps to be taken for the decision to be implemented, adding that he expects the decision to be announced in the 'very near future'.

THEY DECLARED IT A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION IN 2003

Russia, which added the Taliban to its list of terrorist organizations in 2003, has been gradually improving its relations with the group since August 2021, when the United States (US) withdrew from Afghanistan.

In a speech in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, in July, Putin stated that they view the Taliban as an 'ally', saying, "The Taliban is our ally in the fight against terrorism because every government in power wants stability in its area of responsibility."

CALL FROM LAVROV TO 'LIFT SANCTIONS'

Moscow is also hosting a dialogue meeting on Afghanistan today.

Representatives from China, Iran, and India, as well as other regional countries, are attending the meeting, where Taliban regime Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has been invited as a 'guest of honor'.

Meeting with his counterpart as part of the summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on Western countries to lift sanctions on Afghanistan.

Lavrov requested that sanctions against the country be lifted "to help in the reconstruction of Afghanistan."
