Remarkable move from Pakistan regarding Iran: Permission granted
Speaking to CBS, U.S. officials claimed that despite playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran, Pakistan has allowed Iranian military aircraft to be stationed at its airports.
In a report on the channel's website, it was stated, "According to U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter, while Pakistan positions itself as a diplomatic bridge between Tehran and Washington, it has quietly allowed Iranian military aircraft to land at its airports, potentially shielding them from American airstrikes."
The officials claimed that Iran has also sent civilian aircraft to Afghanistan, but it remains unclear whether military aircraft were among those flights.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the U.S. officials argued that days after U.S. President Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran in early April, Tehran sent "a large number of aircraft" to the Nur Khan Military Base near the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi.
The report included the detail that among the military equipment deployed by Iran at the airport it was granted access to in Pakistan was an RC-130, a reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering variant of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules tactical transport aircraft.
Furthermore, the report noted that when asked about the incident, a senior Pakistani official stated, "The Nur Khan base is located in the very heart of the city; it is impossible for a large fleet of aircraft parked there to be hidden from the public eye."
On the other hand, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a written statement that Iranian aircraft were present in the country, while denying "speculative claims."
The statement read, "The Iranian aircraft parked in Pakistan arrived during the ceasefire period and have no connection to any military emergency or protection arrangement. Claims suggesting otherwise are speculative, misleading, and completely detached from the actual context."
