Report released on Azerbaijani passenger plane that crashed in Kazakhstan last year

The Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport has released an interim report on the progress of the investigation into the Embraer 190 passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) that crashed in Aktau, the capital of Kazakhstan. The report stated that the damage to the aircraft may have been caused by the destructive elements of a warhead, but the source of these elements could not be determined.

The Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport, regarding the Baku-Grozny flight performing anEmbraer 190 type passenger aircraft thatpassan interim report on the progress of the investigation into the crash that occurred during its landing in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25 of last year.Thereport notes that the commission established for the accident, which includes experts from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Brazil, as well as an observer from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),has been analyzingthe datacollectedduring this period.It was stated that theaircraft's black boxes were examined and the cockpit voice recorder was analyzed.The report noted that a detailed examination was carried out at the crash site to determine the structural position of the aircraft,andthat photo and video recordings were made at the scene, and the aircraftparts belonging to theaircraftwere collected and taken for examination.

As part of the investigation, theforeignmetal objects found on the aircraft underwent comprehensiveisotope, ballistic, and explosiveanalyses. The report stated that no traces of any explosive substances were found as a result of these examinations, and the examinationIt was reported that no evidence of an explosion was found in the 3 oxygen cylinders sent toChina.

The report stated that the damageto the aircraftmay have been caused by the impact of destructive elements from a warhead, but the source of these elements could not be determined. In the traceological examination conducted on a pipe segmentbelongingto the number 2 hydraulic system, damage was detected on the pipe.that, steel-mademetal fragmentsmay have caused this damage, it was noted.
