Republicans in US House of Representatives level accusations against Biden's son
As the US presidential election in November approaches, debates between Democrats and Republicans in Congress are increasingly heating up.
Republicans, who hold the majority in the House of Representatives, are preparing to take a new step in the investigation into Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, regarding his business connections with certain foreign countries.
The chairs of the House Judiciary Committee and the Oversight and Accountability Committee stated in a joint announcement that they will release the indictment file against Hunter Biden next week.
Republican members James Comer and Jim Jordan stated, "Hunter Biden's deliberate failure to appear for testimony constitutes an obstruction of Congress's work and falls under the jurisdiction of the relevant prosecutor's office. We will not grant him special treatment because of his last name."
Republicans will first vote on the charges against Hunter Biden, who did not appear to testify before Congress, in the relevant committees next week; if passed by these committees, the vote against Biden will move to the House of Representatives floor.
Given the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, the vote is widely expected to result in a decision against Hunter Biden.
HUNTER BIDEN INVESTIGATION
The relevant committees of the House of Representatives had summoned Hunter Biden to testify as part of the impeachment inquiry into US President Joe Biden, but Biden had stated he would only accept this on the condition that it be "public." Biden, who was initially requested to testify in a closed session, did not appear to provide testimony.
In the multi-faceted impeachment inquiry into the US President, the House of Representatives is investigating allegations regarding whether Biden's family members improperly benefited from foreign business deals or whether he used his policy to provide benefits, as well as claims that the Department of Justice improperly slowed down tax crime investigations.
