Resignation over 'corruption' in Peru: Prime Minister Otarola resigns

In Peru, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola stated in a press statement that he had resigned from his position as prime minister following a meeting with President Dina Boluarte.

Accusing former Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra, Otarola said, "I have made this decision to provide relief to the government. I am open to all investigations, and I have no doubt that Mr. Martin Vizcarra is behind all of this."

Emphasizing that he does not accept the corruption allegations against him "in any way," Otarola remarked, "Throughout my life and professional career, I have always believed in morality, ethics, and the rule of law."

The prosecutor's office had previously announced that a preliminary investigation had been launched against the prime minister for corruption after audio recordings of a phone conversation between Otarola and his former partner surfaced.

According to the Peruvian press, Otarola is also accused of facilitating an irregular contract with the state for a former business associate.
