Romania scrambles fighter jets as Russian drones approach border
Romania scrambled its fighter jets after Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) approached its border during attacks on southwestern Ukraine.
In a written statement, the Romanian Ministry of National Defense stated that Russia carried out attacks with drones against civilian and port infrastructure in southwestern Ukraine last night.
The statement noted that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to monitor air security after the drones approached the Romanian border, adding that the radar system did not detect any unauthorized entry.
The statement also mentioned that the public in areas near the Borcea Air Base was informed following the scrambling of the fighter jets, and condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine.
