Roof collapse at entertainment venue in Dominican Republic: Death toll reaches 226
As the death toll from the roof collapse at an entertainment venue in Santo Domingo rises to 226, the number of injured has been announced as 189.
The death toll from the roof collapse that occurred on April 8 at the "Jet Set" entertainment venue in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, has reached 226. There were more than 500 people in the venue at the time of the incident.

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced that search and rescue efforts are ongoing and that 4,580 personnel have been assigned to provide support to the victims' families. Dominican President Luis Abinader stated that a commission consisting of national and international experts has been established following the incident.
It was reported that among those who lost their lives in the tragedy were 18 Venezuelans, 3 Spaniards, 2 French citizens, 1 Colombian, 1 Italian, and 1 Kenyan. Additionally, artist Rubby Perez, who was on stage at the time of the accident, and former MLB player Octavio Dotel were also among those who lost their lives.
Antonio Espaillat, the owner of the entertainment venue, stated that they are cooperating with authorities to ensure the process is conducted transparently. A 3-day period of national mourning has been declared in the country following the incident.
