Russia adds chess master Kasparov to terror list!
The name of legendary chess master Kasparov has been added to the "terrorists and extremists" list on the website of the Russian Federation's Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring).
Russia has included former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov on its "terrorists and extremists" list.
Kasparov, a Russian citizen with a Jewish father and an Armenian mother, was the world chess champion between 1985 and 2000.
After ending his chess career in 2005, Kasparov became involved in political opposition movements against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Having begun living abroad after some time, Kasparov obtained Croatian citizenship in 2014.
Following the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, Kasparov, who criticized President Putin, had called for "military support for Ukraine against Russia and the collapse of the Russian economy." Kasparov was placed on Russia's "foreign agent" list on May 20, 2022.
Following Kasparov, Magnus Carlsen took the title of the world's best chess player.
