Russia declares state of emergency

Russia declares state of emergency

Acting Governor of the Kursk region, located near Russia's border with Ukraine, Aleksey Smirnov, announced that a state of emergency has been declared in the region due to clashes between Russian and Ukrainian military forces.

In a statement on his Telegram channel, Smirnov provided information regarding the situation following the attacks launched by the Ukrainian army on the Kursk region yesterday.

Stating that the situation is "difficult" but under control, Smirnov said, "I have decided to declare a state of emergency in the region as of August 7 to eliminate the consequences of enemy troops entering the Kursk region."

The Russian Ministry of Health announced that the number of people injured in the Ukrainian military's attack on the region has risen to 31.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE REGION?

Violent clashes are taking place between the two armies following the attacks launched by the Ukrainian army on the Russian territory of the Kursk region yesterday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had announced that they had inflicted losses on the Ukrainian army units attacking the Kursk region and that counter-operations were ongoing.

The country's Ministry of Health had also reported that 24 people, including 6 children, were injured in the Ukrainian military's attack on the region.

Kursk Region Acting Governor Smirnov had stated that they had begun evacuating civilians from settlements under attack on the Russia-Ukraine border and that hundreds of civilians had been evacuated from the area in one day.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with security officials regarding the situation in the Kursk region and requested that the Russian government take the necessary steps to provide the required support to civilians.
