Russia fines Twitch, Telegram, and Pinterest 10.5 million rubles

Russia fines Twitch, Telegram, and Pinterest 10.5 million rubles

In Russia, Twitch, Telegram, and Pinterest have been fined a total of 10.5 million rubles for failing to fulfill their obligations regarding prohibited content. It was noted that the amount corresponds to approximately 136 thousand dollars.

The cases filed against the platforms were heard at the Tagansky District Court in the capital, Moscow. The court concluded that the relevant content had not been removed and that legal regulations in Russia had not been complied with.

Under the ruling, Twitch, Telegram, and Pinterest were each fined 3.5 million rubles. Thus, the total fine imposed on the three platforms reached 10.5 million rubles.

Various fines have previously been imposed on foreign social media and digital platforms in Russia within the scope of legal obligations and content removal requests in the country.

It is stated that Telegram was previously completely blocked in Russia due to legal violations, and that access restrictions have been imposed on Twitch from time to time.
