Russia launches counter-offensive in Kursk

Fierce fighting continues following the surprise offensive launched by the Ukrainian army on August 6, when it crossed the border into Russia's Kursk region.

Russia has launched a counter-offensive against Ukraine, which had been advancing in the region for some time. In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was stated: “During the attacks over the last 2 days, 10 settlements were liberated: Apanasovka, Byakhovo, Vishnyovka, Viktorovka, Vnezapnoye, Gordeyevka, Krasnooktybrskoye, Obukhovo, Snagost, and Desyaty Oktyabr.

Within the last 24 hours, two enemy counter-attacks in the directions of Fanaseyevka and Snagost were repelled, and an enemy attempt to attack in the direction of Olgovka was also thwarted.

Four attempts by the enemy to cross the Russian border in the directions of Novy Put and Medvezhye were repelled.” It was reported that the Ukrainian army lost more than 300 soldiers and 24 armored vehicles.

It was further stated that since the start of the offensive on August 6, the Ukrainian army has lost more than 12,500 soldiers, 101 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 83 armored personnel carriers, 669 armored combat vehicles, 410 motor vehicles, 92 artillery pieces, 7 US-made HIMARS systems, and 26 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) including 5 MLRS systems, 8 surface-to-air missile launchers, and 2 air defense radars.

CONFIRMATION FROM ZELENSKYY

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed in a statement that Russia has begun counter-offensive actions.
