Russia: The most undemocratic presidential election in Moldova's history has taken place

Zakharova issued a written statement regarding the second round of the presidential election held in Moldova on Sunday.

Pointing out that incumbent President Maia Sandu won the election with 55.33 percent of the vote, Zakharova noted that a large portion of the votes for Sandu came from citizens living in Western countries.

Drawing attention to the fact that approximately 500 thousand Moldovan citizens live in Russia, Zakharova stated that "Chisinau practiced discrimination against these citizens by opening only 2 polling stations."

Claiming that numerous violations occurred during the election, Zakharova stated that the Chisinau administration pressured opposition forces and media outlets in the country during the election process.

Spokesperson Zakharova emphasized that the West openly interfered in the election process in Moldova, stating, "This was the most undemocratic election campaign to take place during Moldova's years of independence."
