Russia: US is pressuring Turkish Airlines
Russia has accused the US of pressuring Turkish Airlines (THY) to prevent Russians from flying to Mexico. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye and Turkish Airlines have not issued a statement on the matter.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has claimed that the US is pressuring Turkish Airlines (THY) to prevent Russian citizens from boarding flights to Mexico.
The Russian embassy in Ankara stated earlier this week that some Russian passengers were being denied boarding without discrimination on certain flights operated by THY from Istanbul to South American countries.
In a report published yesterday by the TASS news agency, Ryabkov said, "Especially regarding Mexico, I think it is easy to guess the reason. The reason lies in the pressure exerted by Washington on the authorities of this country," though he did not provide evidence for his accusation.
Two industry sources speaking to Reuters stated that the US is pressuring THY to prevent Russians from migrating to the US southern border, and that THY is acting accordingly.
At the time of writing, no response had been received from the US Department of State.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye and Turkish Airlines have not issued a statement on the matter.
