Russia wants to evaluate Trump's statements on Ukraine
Russia is trying to understand the 50-day deadline mentioned by US President Donald Trump for resolving the conflict in Ukraine and the intention behind this statement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers' meeting held in Tianjin, China, recalled that Trump had previously given different timeframes, stating, "We want to understand what is behind this 50-day expression. Previously, timeframes such as 24 hours and 100 days had also been given. We really want to understand the US president's motivation."
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, noting that Trump's recent statements are serious, said, "There are elements in these statements that directly concern President Putin. We need time to analyze this rhetoric coming from Washington."
Following his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump stated that Russia and President Vladimir Putin have disappointed him. He also announced that European countries would purchase more US weapons through NATO coordination and that these weapons would be sent to Kyiv.
The US President threatened to impose "tariffs of approximately 100 percent" on Russia and its trading partners "if an agreement is not reached within 50 days." Turkey is among Russia's largest trading partners.
