Russia warns of potential nuclear disaster: 'If Ukraine continues like this...'
Russia stated that Ukraine's actions in Kursk could lead to a nuclear disaster.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that the ongoing clashes in the Kursk region during the war between Ukraine and Russia could trigger a nuclear disaster.
Stating that Ukraine's actions could lead to a nuclear catastrophe, Lavrov said, 'Europe would be the first to suffer from this.'
Lavrov made the remarks regarding current issues during a meeting with foreign mission representatives in the capital, Moscow.
Recalling that the Ukrainian army entered the Russian territory of the Kursk region at the beginning of August, Lavrov noted that attacks on Russian civilian elements have increased during this period. Stating that the Russian army is currently continuing to expel Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region, Lavrov addressed the situation at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
The Russian Foreign Minister said, 'The situation around the Kursk NPP is very tense.'
Reminding that the Ukrainian army has also carried out attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Lavrov continued:
'As a result of an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on August 11, a fire broke out there. One of the plant's two cooling towers was damaged in the fire. This is a serious situation. The West did not attach importance to this situation. The actions of their puppets could lead to a nuclear disaster like Chernobyl. Europe would be the first to suffer from this.'
WILL RUSSIAN TERRITORY BE TARGETED WITH LONG-RANGE WEAPONS?
Accusing the West of supporting Ukraine's actions, Lavrov said that NATO is providing Ukraine with long-range weapons, transferring military space intelligence data, and coordinating attacks on infrastructure facilities in Russia.
Evaluating the possibility that Western countries might lift restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons to attack targets on Russian soil, Lavrov said, 'We have no doubt that the decision on this matter has already been made. However, they are trying to present this decision to the public in a nice way.'
Claiming that Ukrainian intelligence uses terrorist organizations to carry out terrorist acts in Russia, Lavrov said, 'We have information that Ukrainian intelligence representatives are in Idlib, Syria, to recruit Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants. They want to use them in the operations they are planning.'
Minister Lavrov stated that Russia is in favor of resolving the Ukraine crisis through political and diplomatic means, but that they 'have not seen a readiness for honest diplomacy.'
