Russian Consul General in Istanbul Buravov assesses the 3rd year of the war
Russian Consul General in Istanbul Andrey Buravov, speaking at a press conference as the war in Ukraine enters its 3rd year, stated that a difficult but indisputable decision was made in February 2022 to defend the interests of the Russian people, saying, "At that time, we had no other choice but to launch a special military operation to ensure our security and the future of these people."
Russian Consul General in Istanbul Andrey Buravov held a press conference at the Consulate General. Referring to previous statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Buravov stated that a difficult but indisputable decision was made in February 2022 to defend the interests of the Russian people, saying, "A difficult but indisputable decision was made in February 2022 to defend our interests and the interests of the Russian people in territories that were founded and developed by Russians but had become part of a Ukraine that had fallen under the Nazi yoke."
"At that time, we had no other choice but to launch a special military operation to ensure our security and the future of these people. Our soldiers are conducting difficult battles to save the people of Donbas and Novorossiya, and to ensure our country's national interests, security, sovereignty, and future. We are resisting Western hybrid attacks, and in some respects, direct non-hybrid attacks," he said.
Stating that the West continues to provide arms support to Ukraine, Buravov said that the Russian side has never rejected a political and diplomatic solution and that they remain open to the resumption of negotiations, which he noted were interrupted by the Kiev regime. Buravov said, "Potential agreements must take into account Russia's security interests and be based on new regional realities. Everything will depend on the concrete actions of the new administration. It is a positive development that President Donald Trump has pointed to attempts to admit Ukraine into NATO as one of the causes of the conflict. Russia has been saying this from the very beginning," he stated.
EVALUATED THE PHONE CALL BETWEEN PUTIN AND TRUMP
Speaking about the phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Buravov said the following:
"The heads of state discussed issues related to the exchange of Russian and US citizens. In the meantime, the American side gave assurances that it would comply with all agreements reached on this matter. The issue of a resolution was also discussed. Trump advocated for the immediate cessation of military clashes and the resolution of the problem through peaceful means. For his part, Putin spoke about the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and declared that he agreed with Trump that a long-term solution could be reached through peace talks.
Putin also supported one of Trump's main theses that it is time for our countries to work together. During the meeting, topics such as the Middle East resolution, the Iranian Nuclear Program, and bilateral Russian-American relations in the economic field were also touched upon. Putin invited Trump to visit Moscow.
At the same time, he expressed that he is ready to host American officials in Russia regarding areas of work of mutual interest, including the Ukrainian resolution. Putin and Trump also agreed to continue personal contacts, including face-to-face meetings."
Speaking about the phone call between Putin and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara, Buravov said, "During this meeting, our relevant position supporting the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Syrian State was emphasized by Russia. In this context, the importance of implementing a series of measures to ensure stable normalization in the country and to intensify dialogue among Syrians with the participation of leading political forces and ethnic-religious population groups was emphasized," he said.
Buravov also assessed the situation in Palestine with the following words:
"Palestine is now in difficult conditions due to the failure to implement the decision regarding the establishment of two states. This is an issue that concerns hundreds of thousands, even millions of people. This people is now in difficult conditions due to the failure to implement the decisions accepted, including those from 1967, regarding the establishment of two states in Palestine, and this situation has become much more dire especially because of the recent actions taken by Israel. At the root of all these events lies the lack of a solution to the Palestinian problem. It lies in the failure to establish two states. Therefore, in principle, it is in favor of resolving this position from the foundation."
