Russian Deputy Chief of General Staff Vadim Shamarin arrested
A Russian military court has reported that Russian Deputy Chief of General Staff Vadim Shamarin has been arrested on corruption charges. Anti-corruption operations targeting high-ranking figures in the Russian military continue.
Russian Deputy Chief of General Staff Vadim Shamarin, who was detained last month as part of an investigation, has been arrested on charges of corruption.
According to a statement made by the Press Service of the 235th Garrison Military Court of Russia, there is evidence that Shamarin accepted a large bribe, and it was decided that he would be held in pre-trial detention for 2 months as a precautionary measure.
Shamarin, who previously received the 2nd class 'Order of Merit for the Fatherland' medal awarded to successful soldiers in the Russian army, had begun his duties as the Head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces in 2021.
SCANDALS CONTINUE
Last April, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov and the Head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Yury Kuznetsov, were detained on charges of corruption and bribery, while recently, the former commander of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian army, Ivan Popov, was also arrested on fraud charges.
Following the corruption scandals in the Russian army, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu as the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, and Andrey Belousov became the new Russian Defense Minister.
