Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to visit North Korea
It has been reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay an official visit to North Korea this week.
While allegations that North Korea is providing military equipment to Russia remain fresh, it has been announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay an official visit to North Korea on October 18-19.
No detailed information was shared regarding the visit, which will take place at the invitation of the North Korean Foreign Ministry. It is stated that Lavrov, who is expected to hold talks regarding a potential visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea and the development of bilateral relations, may also meet with his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son-hui.
ARMS TRADE ALLEGATIONS HAD COME TO THE FORE
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who visited Russia last month, held bilateral and inter-delegation meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It was alleged that the pair, who agreed to develop strategic cooperation, discussed a plan for North Korea to provide artillery shells and anti-tank missiles to Russia in exchange for Moscow sending satellite and nuclear submarine technology to Pyongyang.
In a statement from the White House, it was noted that North Korea had sent over a thousand containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia between September 7 and October 1.
