Anna Prokofieva, who worked for Channel One television, lost her life in an explosion that occurred in the Belgorod region. It was reported that cameraman Dmitry Volkov was also seriously injured in the incident, which took place in the village of Demidovka near the Russia-Ukraine border.

State television Channel One announced that the deceased correspondent had 'fallen as a martyr while on duty.' In the official statement released, it was claimed that the explosive had been planted by Ukrainian soldiers.

The 35-year-old Prokofieva had been working as a war correspondent for Channel One after previously working at RT. Known for her reports from the front lines, the journalist had drawn attention with photos of herself in military uniform shared on social media.

Since the beginning of the war, numerous media workers have lost their lives on both sides. International press organizations continue to call for the safety of journalists to be ensured in conflict zones.
