U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met at the White House for the first time since 2018.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited the White House for the first time since the 2018 murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul.
Salman was welcomed by U.S. President Donald Trump with an official ceremony. Following the ceremony, Salman and Trump moved to the Oval Office for a private meeting.
U.S. President Trump welcomed Saudi Crown Prince MBS, for whom he held an extensive ceremony at the White House, at the door, and the two chatted briefly in the White House garden before heading to the Oval Office.
Later, hosting the Crown Prince in the Oval Office, Trump emphasized that they have excellent relations with Saudi Arabia and that MBS is a "very close friend" of his.
Recalling Saudi Arabia's pledge to invest $600 billion in the U.S., Trump commented, "We are very pleased. This is a wonderful thing," following MBS's promise to increase this figure to $1 trillion.
SALE OF F-35S TO SAUDI ARABIA
The US President stated that they are ready to sell F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia and that they expect these jets to be on par with the F-35s possessed by Israel.
When asked, "Israel wants to link the sale of F-35s to Saudi Arabia to the 'normalization' process; what are your thoughts on this?" Trump replied, "Israel is aware of this situation. Israel will be very happy about this."
Trump emphasized that they would also discuss the process regarding the Abraham Accords during their meeting with the Crown Prince, but avoided using clear language regarding Riyadh's participation in the agreement.
Trump stated, "I don't want to use the word 'commitment,' but we had a very good discussion about the Abraham Accords. We talked about many issues, such as a two-state solution (regarding Palestine). We will discuss this matter in more detail shortly. However, I think you have a very positive attitude toward the Abraham Accords."
