Serbian President Vucic announces decision to resign

Aleksandar Vucic, whose second term as president in Serbia will end in May next year, has signaled that he will continue his political career as prime minister, as the constitution prevents him from running for president a third time.

In an interview with Belgrade Radio, part of the Serbian Radio and Television (RTS) network, Vucic was asked whether he would run for prime minister. He replied, "I am considering running for prime minister. I have an important meeting this evening, and we will discuss how the list will be formed. We will include many young, energetic people and students."

Vucic stated, "I plan to resign. I might do it in three or four months. I will inform you. Don't worry, it won't be a surprise to anyone. I have started packing my books from the presidency. I will donate the 1,200 books I purchased during my tenure."

Vucic also stated that elections would be held within a few months and that this was a technical matter. The Serbian leader said, "The elections will take place in three or four months. They will not be in July or August. However, whether they will be announced on those dates is a separate issue."
