Shock from the EU to Israel: Are sanctions coming?

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has made a flash announcement regarding Israel. Von der Leyen announced that bilateral support provided to Israel is being suspended. 

CAME AFTER THE DOHA ATTACK

Von der Leyen's statement came following the airstrike Israel carried out on Doha, the capital of Qatar. The statement emphasized that cooperation agreements would also be "partially suspended." However, no details were shared regarding the level at which the suspension would be implemented.

PROPOSAL FOR SANCTIONS AGAINST EXTREMIST MINISTERS

Von der Leyen also stated that sanctions against far-right ministers in Israel would be on the agenda. In this context, it was noted that the European Commission will present the relevant sanction proposals in the coming days.

SANCTIONS BEFORE SPAIN

In recent days, Spain had decided to impose sanctions against Israel's Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich. The EU is also expected to take a similar step by expanding this decision.
