Shocking claim from British press: Trump ordered invasion plan for Greenland

While US President Donald Trump's statements regarding incorporating Greenland into US territory continue to be debated, a new claim from the British press has shaken the agenda. The Mail on Sunday newspaper, in a report based on diplomatic sources, wrote that the Trump administration has put a military scenario for Greenland on the table.

According to the report, the aggressive wing led by Trump's political advisor Stephen Miller, which is said to be influential within the administration, argued that action should be taken regarding Greenland, emboldened by a previous attempt to kidnap Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. It was alleged that this group aims to bring the island under US control before it falls into the sphere of influence of Russia or China.

In this context, it was claimed that Trump ordered the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare a plan for the invasion of Greenland. However, it was reported that the US Joint Chiefs of Staff remained distant from this request on the grounds that the plan in question had no legal basis and that it would not be possible to obtain approval from Congress.

EFFORTS BY THE MILITARY WING TO DISTRACT

While it was stated that senior military officials resorted to different methods to dissuade Trump from this idea, an unnamed source said that the generals were trying to divert Trump's attention to other topics. The source stated that during this process, "they tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as stopping the 'ghost ships' that Russia uses to evade Western sanctions or launching an attack on Iran."

Another source, stating that the generals found the plan extremely risky, commented, "The generals think Trump's Greenland plan is crazy and illegal. That's why they are trying to keep him busy with other major military operations. To them, it's like dealing with a 5-year-old child."

ELECTION CALCULATIONS AND NATO CONCERNS

British diplomats argued that Trump sees the Greenland plan as a maneuver in domestic politics. According to the diplomats, Trump wants to divert the attention of the US public from economic indicators before the midterm elections and create a different agenda against the possibility of losing control of Congress to the Democrats.

A diplomatic cable mentioned in the report stated that the worst-case scenario was defined as "the internal collapse of NATO." The same source stated that some European officials think this might be the real goal of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) faction around Trump.

The source continued their assessment with these words:

"Since Congress will not allow Trump to leave NATO, they could force the Europeans to leave NATO by invading Greenland. If Trump wants to end NATO, this could be the most convenient way."
