Signal for negotiations with Iran from Trump's Middle East Special Envoy Witkoff

U.S. President Donald Trump's Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff made assessments regarding the U.S.-initiated campaign against Iran at an investment forum held in the U.S. state of Florida.

According to reports in the U.S. press, Witkoff stated that talks with Iran could be held soon, saying, "We think there will be talks this week. We are certainly hopeful."

Without specifying whether he meant the current week or the next, Witkoff said, "We have a 15-point agreement that has been in the hands of the Iranians for some time. We are waiting for an answer from them, and that will solve everything."

"We are talking to Iran"

Stating that the agreement the U.S. wants envisions Iran ending its uranium enrichment activities, Witkoff expressed that this would ensure "a second North Korea does not emerge in the Middle East."

Referring to the announcement that Trump had postponed attacks on energy facilities for another 10 days at the request of the Iranian government, Witkoff said, "We have provided an extension for Iran.

We see this as a really positive development. We are negotiating with the Iranians. Our definition of negotiation might be different from theirs. But we are talking to them."

Describing Iran's permission for some ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a "good sign," Witkoff assessed, "The President wants a peace deal. But you cannot get anyone to the table without pressure. We are ready to solve this problem through diplomatic means."
