Significant development in Trump's 'hush money' trial!
Former US President Donald Trump's lawyers have rested their defense in the 'hush money' trial. Trump criticized the case against him, stating, 'There is no crime, and there is no case.'
The trial of former US President Donald Trump, who is accused of paying 'hush money' to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election, continued at the Manhattan Criminal Court in New York.
While Trump did not take the stand to testify, his lawyer, Todd Blanche, stated that they had no further questions for witnesses and that they had rested their defense. After the jurors left the courtroom, Trump's lawyers and the court team negotiated the legal instructions that will be read to the jurors to help them reach a correct verdict.
Trump's lawyer, Emil Bove, requested that the court remind the jurors in the instruction text that the 'hush money' payment was not illegal, but Judge Juan Merchan rejected the request, stating that the fact that the 'hush money' payment was not illegal had already been entered into the record several times during the testimonies. Merchan said, "I don't think it's necessary." The court announced that the trial would continue next Tuesday with closing arguments.
TRUMP TARGETED JUDGE MERCHAN
In a statement made after the hearing, Trump criticized the judicial process against him, saying, "There is no crime, and there is no case." Accusing Judge Juan Merchan of being "biased" and "conflicted," Trump stated, "The judge is very prejudiced and very corrupt."
COULD FACE 4 YEARS IN PRISON
In the case, also known publicly as the 'hush money' trial, Trump is accused of falsifying official records to cover up the 'hush money' payment he made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. Although 'hush money' payments are not illegal in the US, it is stated that Trump could face up to 4 years in prison for the charge of falsifying records. The case is significant as it marks the first time in US history that a former US President has been tried in a criminal case.
