The age range of users is steadily decreasing as social media usage continues to rise. A notable move on the subject has come from Australia. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that they are preparing to introduce a ban on social media usage for those under 16. 

Albanese stated that the Australian government will implement this regulation to ensure that young people can navigate social media platforms more safely. 

Albanese also called on social media companies to take action, particularly to prevent the risks that young people face in online environments. 

The Prime Minister conveyed that they expect social media platforms to use more effective verification methods, especially to identify users under the age of 16. Albanese also expressed that such measures would help protect young people against cyberbullying, online abuse, and other digital dangers.
