South Africa assumes G20 presidency

In his closing speech at the Leaders' Summit, he emphasized the successes Brazil achieved during the summit.

Handing over the G20 presidency to South African President Ramaphosa, Lula da Silva noted that they had taken significant steps during the summit, such as celebrating the G20 Social Summit, establishing a roadmap for strengthening Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), holding discussions on Africa and external debt, creating a working group for the empowerment of women, and adopting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 18, which focuses on ethnic and racial equality.

Brazilian leader Lula da Silva recalled the work done and stated the following:

"This year, we held more than 140 meetings in 15 Brazilian cities. We reached a consensus in almost all working groups. We are aware that we have only touched the surface of the deep challenges the world is facing, but we are working very hard. It is an appropriate time to evaluate what we have achieved so far and to see how we should proceed from here."

Touching upon the historical, cultural, political, and economic ties between Africa and Latin America, Lula da Silva wished his counterpart Ramaphosa success.
