South Africa will not withdraw genocide case against Israel

South Africa will not withdraw its genocide case against Israel despite the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that they will not withdraw the genocide case they filed against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its attacks on the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire agreement reached.

Stating that the agreement will have no effect on the case, Ramaphosa said, "As I said, the case is ongoing, and we have now reached the stage where Israel must respond to the petitions we have submitted to the court. After the International Court of Justice sets a date for the presentation and examination of evidence, they are required to do so by January of next year."

Many countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Colombia, Ireland, and Spain, have joined the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel on December 29, 2023, at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN's highest judicial body.
