South African Ambassador to the US Rasool declared 'persona non grata' in the US
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that South African Ambassador to the US Ebrahim Rasool has been declared 'persona non grata'.
Secretary Rubio shared a message on his X social media account regarding reports containing allegations about Rasool.
Rubio stated in his message, "He is someone who engages in race-based provocation and hates America and the US President. We have nothing to consult with him about, and he is now a persona non grata." Rubio indicated that there is no longer a place for Rasool in the US.
US President Donald Trump had previously claimed that the South African government treated them poorly and brought up the possibility of granting citizenship to 'white South African farmers'.
According to the US press, Rasool accuses Trump of leading the 'white supremacist movement' in his country and around the world.
Political tension between the two countries has increased with the 'genocide' case filed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
