South Korea launches investigation into Netflix over 'business malpractice' allegations

South Korea has launched an investigation into the global digital streaming platform Netflix.

According to a report by Yonhap, the South Korea Fair Trade Commission (SKFTC) sent inspectors to Netflix's office in the capital, Seoul, to obtain documents detailing terms of use and subscription cancellation policies.

Netflix is accused of "making it difficult for users to cancel their memberships early and failing to adequately inform users about the membership cancellation process within the billing period."

According to data from the Korea Communications Commission, Netflix is the digital platform with the highest number of monthly users in the country, with over 11 million subscribers, while Wavve, another digital platform under investigation, ranks 4th with around 4 million subscribers.

Netflix was fined in South Korea in February 2022 due to "unfair subscription practices."
