Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Diaz calls for sanctions on Israel

In a speech addressed to the deputies of the Sumar Party, Diaz stated that one of the first steps the new government to be formed in Spain this weekend should take is to show a reaction to Israel due to its attacks on Gaza. Arguing that the new government should summon Israel's Ambassador to Madrid for consultations over the attacks in Gaza, Diaz used the following expressions:

"An embargo on arms sales to Israel must also be imposed. Why are such sanctions taken against other countries in similar situations, but not applied against Israel? What is happening in Gaza binds us humanely, ethically, and politically. Pressure must continue to be exerted on Israel until a ceasefire is achieved. There are too many lives at stake. We cannot leave the Palestinian people alone. So far, more than 12 thousand civilians, including women and children, have lost their lives"

It is anticipated that Sumar Party leader Diaz will continue to serve as deputy prime minister in the newly formed government.
