Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez shares letters sent from Turkey: 'You are all saying the same thing'
Spain's stance against the Iran war and its position toward the US have resonated widely on the international stage, earning global appreciation for this bold move. This action taken by Pedro Sánchez has been viewed positively from all corners of the world.
Sánchez received widespread praise globally after refusing to allow the US to use bases in the country and saying 'No to war.' Sanchez showed the letters sent to him on his TikTok account.
The Spanish Prime Minister shared letters on his TikTok account from different parts of the world praising his “no to war” stance. He began his remarks by saying, “Together with my team, we have seen that a large number of letters have arrived in recent weeks regarding the situation in the Middle East and especially the Iran war.”
While showing some of the letters he received, Sánchez noted that they did not come from Spain, but from different countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the US, and Turkey.
“In what you have written to us, you are all saying almost the same thing: that you are proud of Spain's stance, that you want us to continue in this direction, not to give up, and to say yes to peace and no to war out loud. This applies not only to Iran, but also to Gaza, Lebanon, and Ukraine,” he said.
The letter from California
Among the letters shared by Sánchez, the most notable was a handwritten letter sent by a woman named Carrie from the US state of California.
“Dear and Esteemed Sánchez, I applaud your stance against Trump's illegal and immoral aggression in the Middle East,” the letter began, continuing with five words that summarized all the messages he received: “Thank you for doing the right thing.”
The letter continued with the following statements: “Very few people today show as much intelligence and courage as you do. Please know that Trump does not speak for me. I have great respect for you and the people of Spain. You should come to California one day; I would invite you to dinner in peace.”
Sánchez's statement
Through this video, Sánchez also announced a new package of measures that the government will approve this Friday. This package aims to mitigate the economic effects of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
“No one wins from war. Some of you say in your letters that you are already feeling the impact of this in your pockets, and you are right. For this reason, at the extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting this week, we will adopt a socioeconomic measures plan against the effects of the Iran war on Spanish households. We will do this to protect our citizens, even if we do not win this war,” he concluded.
