Spectacular opening ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games officially began with a ceremony held on the Seine River in the capital, Paris.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, French President Emmanuel Macron, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, and numerous statesmen attended the opening ceremony.

Representing Turkey at the high-level event were Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak and European Olympic Committees Executive Committee Member and Beşiktaş Club President Hasan Arat.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, held for the third time in the French capital of Paris after 100 years, took place on the Seine River.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, an opening ceremony was held in the city center rather than in a stadium.

In the ceremony, directed by French director and actor Thomas Jolly, 85 boats carrying athletes from 204 countries and the Refugee Olympic Team set off from under the Austerlitz Bridge and began a parade along the Seine River for over 6 kilometers to the Iena Bridge, the point where the Eiffel Tower is located.

During their journey on the Seine River, the boats passed by the country's prominent historical and tourist landmarks, including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Paris City Hall, the Louvre Museum, the Tuileries Garden, Les Invalides, the Grand Palais, and the Eiffel Tower.
