Statement from Egypt: Is there a ceasefire proposal on the table?

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made statements regarding the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza at the International Riyadh Economic Forum held in Saudi Arabia.

Shoukry said, "There is a proposal on the table for a ceasefire in Gaza, and both sides need to examine it."

Without providing detailed information about the ceasefire proposal, Shoukry emphasized that Egypt "rejects a military intervention" in the Rafah region of Gaza.

STATEMENTS FROM LEADERS

In response to a question regarding Hamas joining the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and accepting peace agreements, Shoukry stated the following:

"There are statements from their leaders that Hamas would abandon armed struggle if there is a clear determination regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state."

It had been announced that a new proposal for a ceasefire and a mutual prisoner exchange agreement, prepared under the mediation of Egypt and Qatar, was presented to Hamas on April 26, and that Hamas was working on the proposal and would provide a response soon.
