Statement from Germany on 'recognizing Palestine'!

German Government Spokesperson Stefan Kornelius announced in a written statement that Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone today.

Kornelius stated that during the call, Chancellor Merz expressed his deep concern regarding the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Urging Netanyahu to do everything in his power to ensure an immediate ceasefire, Merz demanded that the Israeli Prime Minister allow urgent humanitarian aid to reach the starving civilian population in Gaza. The German Chancellor emphasized that aid must reach the people quickly, safely, and in the necessary quantities, adding, "Steps must be taken that include more comprehensive measures to be announced by the Israeli government."

Merz also stated that Germany would closely monitor developments in the region, announcing that the E3 countries—Germany, the UK, and France—along with other European partners, would hold discussions with the US and Arab nations to decide how his country can contribute to improving the situation in Gaza in the coming days.

In his conversation with Netanyahu, Merz remarked, "The recognition of a Palestinian state is currently not on Berlin's agenda. The German government continues to view this as one of the final steps to be taken on the path toward achieving a two-state solution."
