Keçeli provided a written response to a question regarding the US extension of Executive Order 13894 for another year.
Evaluating the US decision to extend Executive Order 13894—first issued in 2019 in the context of developments in Syria—for one year as "not aligning with the realities on the ground," Keçeli stated the following:
"Instead of repeating such biased measures, supporting Turkey's policies that prioritize the territorial integrity and political unity of Syria will contribute to regional stability."
Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring on October 9, 2019, to neutralize terrorists in northern Syria, primarily the PKK/YPG, which threatens its security, and to ensure border security within the scope of its right to self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter.
At that time, the US, which was cooperating with the terrorist organization under the guise of fighting DAESH, declared a national emergency regarding Syria via presidential decree immediately after the start of Operation Peace Spring, claiming that conditions in Syria were hindering the fight against DAESH.
The decree in question also grants the US the authority to impose sanctions.
