Statement from Tufan Erhürman regarding the ferry disaster in Kyrenia

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Tufan Erhürman issued a written statement regarding the ferry accident that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia. Erhürman stated that search and rescue operations are continuing without interruption and that the process will be examined in all its aspects.

Emphasizing that what happened in the accident will not be forgotten, Erhürman said, "Whatever errors, mistakes, negligence, or faults there may be, at any stage—before or after—they will all be brought to light and shared with the public."

Drawing attention to the magnitude of the pain, Erhürman said, "Will what happened be forgotten in a week? Let no one have any doubt that it never will! The cries of children searching for their mothers and mothers searching for their children will not leave our ears!"

QUESTIONS WILL NOT REMAIN UNANSWERED

Addressing the questions posed by journalists and experts following the accident, Erhürman stated that it is the administration's duty to inform the public. President Erhürman noted that as clear information is obtained, questions will be answered "as quickly and at the right time as possible."

Stating that search and rescue activities will continue uninterrupted until the very last moment, Erhürman noted that what has happened must have consequences in terms of management approach, declaring, "This time, what has happened must now be a turning point in terms of administration."

At the end of his statement, Erhürman offered his condolences to those who lost their loved ones, wished patience to the families of those who have not yet been reached, and expressed his well wishes to the teams working in the field.
