Storm sinks two yachts in Southern Cyprus: Businessman Dimi Mavropoulos loses his life
Two yachts sank off the coast of Ayia Napa due to a storm. Businessman and rally driver Dimi Mavropoulos, who was rescued with injuries, passed away in the hospital.
A storm and heavy rainfall that were effective in Southern Cyprus around noon negatively impacted maritime transport and life in coastal regions. It was reported that two yachts sank off the coast of Ayia Napa.
Limassol-based businessman and international rally driver Dimi Mavropoulos, who was on one of the sunken yachts, was rescued by helicopter with injuries. Despite medical interventions at the hospital where he was taken, Mavropoulos lost his life.
According to reports in the Greek Cypriot press, the storm was effective in both the south and north of the island. The Greek Cypriot Meteorological Department had issued a "yellow code" warning across Southern Cyprus during the day.
