Striking 'ceasefire' claim in US media: 'Within 36 hours...'

The news site Axios, citing a senior American official, claimed that Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement on the terms of a ceasefire deal. A Lebanese official said that Washington had informed Beirut that the ceasefire agreement could be announced within a few hours. Lebanese Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab explained the terms of the ceasefire proposed by the United States.

TERMS OF THE CEASEFIRE BETWEEN ISRAEL AND LEBANON

- According to the proposal, the Israeli army will withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days. Lebanese soldiers will be deployed to the region.

- The ceasefire will be monitored by a committee consisting of 5 countries led by the United States.

Bou Saab stated that there are no significant obstacles remaining to the implementation of the ceasefire. He noted that a minor disagreement regarding which countries would monitor the ceasefire had been resolved in the last 24 hours.

He stated that France is among the 5 countries.

"CEASEFIRE WITHIN 36 HOURS..."

Four senior Lebanese sources said that US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron plan to announce a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel within 36 hours.

It was announced that the Israeli cabinet will meet on Tuesday to discuss the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. The cabinet is expected to approve the ceasefire.

Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon said, "we have not finalized it yet, but we are moving forward."

The United Nations also called on all parties in Lebanon to accept the ceasefire.
