Striking claim regarding Asma al-Assad: Secret meeting at a hotel
Following the developments in Syria, Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia with his wife. As the whole world watches the latest developments closely, claims had emerged that Asma al-Assad, who previously received treatment for breast cancer and has recently been battling lymphoma, wanted to divorce Bashar al-Assad. The Kremlin, however, denied these claims. A new striking claim has now been made regarding Asma al-Assad.
Once promoted as the modern face of Syria, London-born Asma al-Assad is shaking the agenda with a different issue, alongside health problems and divorce rumors.
UK-based Declassified UK has made serious allegations that Asma al-Assad has links to British intelligence.
Top-secret documents released indicate that Asma al-Assad participated in counter-intelligence activities in the UK in 1994 and held meetings with MI5 officials.
HELD A MEETING AT A HOTEL
The released documents provide striking information regarding Asma al-Assad's connections to British intelligence. The documents state that Asma al-Assad held a private meeting with Eliza Manningham-Buller, a high-ranking official of the British Secret Service MI5 at the time, at the Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel.
It is emphasized that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad also attended the meeting. Furthermore, the documents include that Asma al-Assad participated in a private meeting held at her father Dr. Fawaz Al-Akhras's home in Acton in 1994.
It is reported that both military and civilian British officials were present at this meeting, and that Syrian-Israeli relations and regional peace talks were discussed.
Another important piece of information in the documents is the monitoring of Bashar al-Assad during his time studying in the UK. British and Syrian intelligence evaluated Assad's focus on political issues beyond his academic studies and his future political stance. The reports state that Assad's political leanings were carefully examined.
POLICIES ANALYZED
Although the meetings appeared to be social in nature, there are claims that they actually had a political structure. The information in the emerging documents supports the claim that Bashar al-Assad's views on Syrian-Israeli relations and regional policies were carefully scrutinized. The documents, which are alleged to belong to Syrian intelligence, bear the signature of the then-Head of the Intelligence Directorate, Major General Ali Issa Duba.
