Strong earthquake in Afghanistan: 5 dead
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake in northern Afghanistan has left 5 people dead and 143 injured.
Afghanistan's Samangan province was struck by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake late last night. According to initial reports, 5 people lost their lives and 143 were injured as a result of this natural disaster. The epicenter of the earthquake was determined to be at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
Afghanistan, which has experienced similar tremors in the past, suffered heavy losses in a 6-magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 31 in the eastern region near the Pakistan border. In that event, 2 thousand 205 people lost their lives and 3 thousand 640 people were injured.
Most recently, another 5.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded northeast of the city of Jalalabad on September 2.
